Close game at home
Only 2 points in it today against a very physical Old Ruts team
Well done to the squad of As and Bs who took on the might of Old Ruts at home, narrowly losing in the last quarter by a conversion. Oldf Rutlishians are a good side usually fielding some very strong and talented players, many of whom play in development squads. They play a very fast pace type of rugby with few rucks, strong scrummaging and plenty of closeup forward work from their back row.
Having lost to injury in the last 48 hours Matthew West, Ade Coker, Luca Fassio and Harvey Cutmore and with the absence of Liam Sullivan and Thomas Sullivan we started with a pared down A team, energetically supported by a re-cycled batch of B players from the game prior.
Despite only starting with 14 players Old Ruts set a very early pace and put in a quick try. Warly tries from Rimarni Richards, Max Robertson, Ben Kocar and Cavell Ani scored with 2 converted by Chris Lipczynski.
Kept at it, kept on with pressure and good tackles; especially Joshua Palmer, Cavell Ani, Ayo Onabolu, Louis Quarendon, Christian Wright and Glenmore Hayden.
Good running with ball in hand Max Robertson, Chris Lipczynski, Paddy Mallows, Aram Rounagh, Ben Kocar
Some sneaky kicks through from Christian Wright
Didn't vary the game play enough, didn't read the situation and react to it. Should have moved the ball out wider as opposition's main strength was in their forwards, but kept taking it to them.
Start quicker, seeing a return to the old problem of taking 1 minutes to warm up.
Thanks Chris Mallows for refereeing both games
Thanks to all parents for coming to support..
