Warly U16 spirited effort against London Irish in Quins Cup Test

Significant improvements to our strategic game were on show last Sunday as the U16 boys faced London Irish in the 1st round of the Quins Cup.

Significant improvements to our strategic game were on show last Sunday as the U16 boys faced London Irish in the 1st round of the Quins Cup.
No snow on the ground at Limpsfield Road made for a balmier event and after a traditionally slow start Warlingham came back from a 0-21 gap scoring 3 tries in the 2nd half.

LI have a very well drilled, physically strong side who have spent countless hours focused on their handling skills which showed on Sunday. But above all else their discipline in the breakdown prevails. To a man they are all prepared to get down on the ball, in numbers and not stand away hoping it will magically present itself. Time after time our brave and determined Warly U16 boys were overrun by the most simple and basic of all the passages of play within the game. Disciplined and rehearsed they bossed this area and that is supported by their overall fitness and determination.

That said our 3 tries were masterful, a by-product of a team on the ropes and declaring 'enough’s enough' and coming back with guts. 2 pushover tries and an under-the-post corker from Liam Sullivan showed how we can really come together when pushed. We technically won the 2nd half with 3 tries to their 2, but sadly after our pedestrian start it was too little too late. Whilst Irish were fluid at the start our renewed strength near the break actually shook them up a bit and probably gave their overall confidence and resolve a bit of a stir.

Superb performances from Rimarni Richards, Paddy Mallows, Bertie “chopper” Heaver, Sam Evans, Louis Quarendon, Matt 'safe hands' West, Jamal Ryan-Coker, Toby Carter, Glenmore Haydon, Max Robertson, Thomas Sullivan, Liam Sullivan, Cavell Ani, Joel Munroe, Harvey 'safe-foot' Cutmore, Ade Coker, Josh Palmer, Christian Wright (Captain)

It was a great performance and we as coaches are proud of all the boys who manned up and showed what a talented team the U16s really. Well done.
