Report by Peter Upton This end of league season fixture had no relevance to Warlingham who were placed mid-table, but the game was vital to Charlton Park who were vying for a play-off position.

Nevertheless Warlingham were keen to end the season on a high and certainly made the home side work hard for the points. Charlton Park go forward to play Sutton & Epsom in the equivalent South West League for a place in London Division 1.

The signs were ominous when Charlton Park ran in a soft try from the kick off when some lazy covering let in their winger despite a valiant late ditch effort from lock Ollie Dodwell. The conversion was missed and, after an early missed attempt, full back Mark Kozminski slotted a penalty. Warlingham's defence stiffened and the well-drilled Park backs were unable to breach the visitors back line, but earned themselves two penalties to put clear water between the sides. Captain Zack King and No 8 Mike Fair took the ball forward at every opportunity and Warlingham looked to be in contention. A well weighted kick out of defence was bundled into touch by Park and, with Alex Skinner and Jon Osborne chasing up a quick throw in was disallowed by the referee and a try scoring opportunity went begging.

After the half time break Warlingham continued to press but when Dodwell left the field with a minor eye injury, some continuity was lost. Brothers Dan and Tom Street, playing together for the first time in some months, brought some go-forward to the Warlingham pack and Park were forced to defend for long periods of play. A third penalty to Park stirred Warlingham and when lock Luke Delderfield drove deep into the home half a quickly recycled ball looked to give them an opportunity to score. However a penalty decision against them gave Park the chance to relieve the pressure. From broken play Park kicked ahead and the resultant chase saw their fast winger touch down for the final score, which somewhat flattered the home side. After the game, Warlingham
Chairman Peter Wrightson said, "Despite there being nothing resting on the result today, the commitment of the players for the full eighty minutes was a credit to them. This is a strong league and we've done well to press the league leaders on every occasion."

Warlingham: Scutt, Nunn, Abou-Zeid, Delderfield, Dodwell, King, Hayward, Fair, McEvoy, Doe, Saffery, Skinner, Osborne, Atkinson, Kozminski, T Street, D Street, Murtagh.
