London Division II South West Andover RFC – 58pts –v- Warlingham 6pts

Warlingham travelled to Hampshire with yet another changed side due to injuries
and the result was that a large Andover team gradually wore down their visitors and
eventually scored nine tries. Andover struck first with a penalty but a long range shot from fly half Pete Jecks levelled the score. A sustained Warlingham attack was thwarted with a knock on and the home side struck back with an unconverted try. Jecks struck again for Warlingham to keep them within touching distance. The Warlingham front row of Nunn, Kavanagh and Townsend held their own in the tight and the lock Jamie Curtis ruled the Warlingham lineout, However Andover found their stride and scored three more tries before half time, two of which were as a result of poor kicking out of defence from Warlingham.

After the break it was more of the same but injuries to scrum half Alex Sampson and lock Chris Francis saw debutante Callum Wand and Ben Warman take the pitch. Wand, at scrum half immediately made an impact with a darting run from scrum half which took him deep into the Andover red zone. Clinical tackling, however, snuffed out the attack. Wand then produced two intelligent kicks ahead which led to a chase
right to the home try line. Again the Andover defence held firm. Warlingham, in the shape of flanker John Dowling and Mark Mardle defended for their lives but the big Andover back line produced a further five tries and Warlingham’s miseries in this difficult league continue unabated. Head coach Paddy Dennien said after the game, “Once again the lads gave 100% for the full eighty minutes and we can’t ask for more."
