London Division II South West Twickenham – 82pts-v- Warlingham 0pts

Warlingham’s better form in recent matches took a tumble when Twickenham’s tight knit pack and free running backs cut through their aspirations to score twelve tries, six in each half. The home side ran in three quick tries within ten minutes and from then on it was a case of tackle, tackle, tackle from the dogged Warlingham players. The ubiquitous No 8 Matt Mardle and the evergreen prop Alex Nunn thwarted many an attack but the Twickenham back line always had a spare man to take the scoring pass.

Injuries to prop Si Townsend and lock Chris Elmes didn’t help the Warlingham cause but they stuck their task heroically despite the regular scores against them. Centre David Priest and flanker John Dowling tackled hard a fly half Peter Jecks tried hard to get his back line functioning with the very little ball possession they had. Warlingham spurned two kickable penalties for line outs trying to get across the Twickenham line but stout defence denied them a score. It is difficult to see Warlingham avoiding relegation at the end of the season but it will not be through lack of effort and determination.

Warlingham’s next game is on 28th January when they travel to Winchester.
