Harlequins Cup 1st Round-Warlingham Wolves U17s, 35 - Sutton & Epsom U18/U17, 27

On a perfect day for rugby The Wolves faced their nemesis in the shape of a very strong Sutton outfit over half of which were from a year group above. It was toe to toe stuff from start to finish with ferocious tackling by both sides.

In the forwards Sutton shaded it in the mauls but the Wolves pack more than matched them in the rucks & loose. Wolves youngest player, prop Richards, has now also almost perfected his trademark impression of a turbo charged Sherman tank and crashed over for two tries.
In the backs it was a case of brain over brawn with outstanding performances from Cutmore, Lipczynski and Sullivan (a try a piece) and deft handling, support and running lines being the order of the day all round.

The highly competitive games denouement brought what the late great Eddie Wareing might have described as "the lads having a tete-a-tete on the touchline” (for which read re-enactment of the Paris riots). Unfortunately, your correspondent (Wright F) and West the Elder involuntarily became embroiled. At my age I am now minded to ponder the fact that whereas mislaying your reading glasses is mildly irritating, forgetting to actually run away when a large angry 18 year old is threating to “knock your f… ing head off” is a matter of deep concern. Senior moments are getting dangerous.

In conclusion, great rugby and nobody badly hurt in the punch up-what’s not to like?
