Lewes RFC – 31pts –v- Warlingham- 48pts

Armed with some new recruits and a tough summer training regime behind them Warlingham travelled to Lewes for a last friendly game before they take on Trojans in Southampton next Saturday for their first London Division III South West league fixture.

With their strongest centre partnership of Nick Canty, fresh from Rosslyn Park, and the impressive David Priest, Warlingham dominated the midfield and, with tries coming in welcome regularity, confidence flooded back into the Hamsey Geen side after a miserable previous season. Director of Rugby Nick Warren had recruited wisely over the summer and his proteges delivered in style. Canty bagged a try as did new winger Mathew Richards, formerly of Sutton & Epsom. But it was Priest who was in line for buying the jugs of beer with a three try haul. He was closely followed by scrum half Callum Wand, returning from a Summer playing rugby in Australia who crossed the try line twice. The game was not one-sided as Lewes competed fiercely and racked up a hat-full of tries. However the Lewes scores came from interceptions and Warlingham errors, whereas Warlingham’s tries were the result of solid training paddock moves which Warren had instilled pre-season. Club coach Mark Kozminski said after the game, “ It’s great to see pre-season work coming good in match play but we will have to address the defensive errors to be at our best next week in the League fixture.”

Warlingham’s first home League game is against Petersfield on Saturday 16th September at 3pm and all spectators are warmly welcomed. Entrance is free and the bar will be open.
