London Division III South West Warlingham – 22pts –v- Old Cranleighans – 41pts

This postponed fixture was always going to be difficult for Warlingham as Old Cranleighans had won the league in some style and put over seventy points on Warlingham in the early season game. However, having won ten games out of the last eleven Warlingham were confident they would give a good account of themselves. Cranleighans started briskly with with their strong running backline seemingly able to break the gain line at will. However, strong defence and stout tackling from Alex Skinner
George Bench and Rory Kavanagh impeded their advances. Nevertheless the visitors racked up their bonus point four try count by half time with only a single try response from the stand-out centre David Priest..

In the second half Warlingham improved and breaks from full back Harry Spencer and fly half Kieron Rickell threatened the Cranleighans defence. Warlingham’s forwards took control and swift service to Priest gave him his second try. Despite further tries from the visitors Warlingham became stronger and carries by Alex Wingfield and Matt Mardle took them within striking distance of the Cranleighans line. Lock J.D. Delderfield took a short pass and deftly avoided the defence line for a try. Within minutes Delderfield repeated the skill for his second, and Warlingham’s fourth, bonus point try. Whilst the result was beyond doubt, Warlingham finished much stronger than their visitors and continued to show that the 2018/19 season could well be a successful one. Director of Rugby Nick Warren said, ”This last game shows the great improvement the lads have shown through the season. Cranleighans are a very good side and will do well in the higher league but to put four tries on them shows our potential for next season.”
