Our Work in the Community

Warlingham RFC runs an active "Rugby in the Community" programme

Our club facilities and coaching expertise is made available to both Secondary and Primary schools and local community groups such as Cub Scouts. We have assisted many local school through hosting Surrey Schools matches, both floodlit and daytime and numerous tournaments. We have also visited school to coach rugby workshops.

The club runs an "Introduction to Rugby" training day each September for Year 7 players who are new to the game. This is well attended by several local state schools.

In conjunction with the RFU, Warlingham runs a "Rugby Leaders" Course for teenagers from local secondary schools, which results in the participants running a primary school competition. This course counts towards the students' Sports GCSE/B-Tech or Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. A further course is planned for August 2015.

2015 is the fifth year that Warlingham RFC have hosted and provided coaching assistance to the highly successful "Junior School of Hard Knocks" initiative, which is run in conjunction with the School of Hard Knocks Charity / Surrey Police with three local secondary schools.

The programme runs over a 10 week period and aims to help youngsters (Year 8 and 9) who have behavioural and/or learning difficulties, by teaching the core values of Rugby alongside lifestyle mentoring.

Warlingham is participating in the "Surrey Sports Initiative" this summer and is coaching Year 7 and 8 girls over an eight week period.

The club runs a "Rugby Summer Training Camp" for age groups U7 through to U14s in conjunction with the Harlequins Rugby Club. The club has in the past sponsored two candidates from the School of Hard Knocks initiative to attend the Summer Rugby Camp for those parents who are not in a financial position to afford the camp.

In conjunction with Worthing College, Warlingham RFC have recently employed a full time formal coaching apprentice, Harry Blain, who is promoting rugby in local state schools particularly where recent funding cuts have depleted their sports coaching resource.
