A few words from our President
I count myself most fortunate to have been your President during the past season, which is one of the best on record. Our 1st XV has been promoted to London 3, playing most attractive and forceful rugby. Many of the team have been drawn from the ranks of our Minis, Juniors and the Academy and we are now fielding four senior teams, giving us improving strength in depth. Our band of spectators is growing and we now have a dedicated group of followers who attend many of the away matches, to the extent we often out-number the home crowd. Our many volunteers continue to give enthusiastic support and a solid bed-rock of excellence in all departments. In an endeavour to increase our social membership and revenue, we have created a new membership category – Friends of Warlingham – which officially launched on 1st July. We hope that many of our existing members will sign up to the FoW cause and persuade their friends and family to join us. This is particularly relevant as we have lost two of our major sponsors, so there is a big gap to fill. Despite these problems, I have every confidence the WRFC will continue to flourish and offer us all great enjoyment for the coming season. Our prime objective must be to gain promotion to London 2 and this presents a challenge which I know we are more than able to meet. If our top side remains solid, continues to play for each other and are fitter than any of our opponents, we have every chance of being back to back Champions. I do hope to see many of you at the Club, particularly at the pre-league match lunches, the dates of which have already been published, as part of the FoW initiative. I have had a wonderful year, have had little to do with the Club’s success and am thoroughly enjoying the honour of serving you all as your President.
